When Swiss patent no. 500,000 was granted in 1976, Paul Schatz was in contact with Ciba Geigy Basel, which enabled him to mould the oloid under vacuum pressure. The epoxy resin was also patented by Paul Schatz’s contemporaries, the Swiss chemist Pierre Castan and the German Paul Schlack in 1938-1940 and offered in various versions by Ciba-Geigy.
The transparency and play with light, which is possible with epoxy resin, gives the oloid shape a special touch and elegance.
The specific weight and properties of the resin are particularly suitable for experiencing the gentle and rhythmic swaying of the Oloid on a smooth surface.
Kuboid GmbH has revitalised this wonderful object from the past for you.
The Oloid is a challenge in terms of design and technology. It is used in water treatment and in industry. The field of applications is immense. Paul Schatz also saw the use of the shape in aviation and for the propulsion of ships.
