These small Oloids fit so snugly into the palm that we call them «Handschmeichler» – objects that caress the hand. But they can also be perceived as tumbling gnomes, as tiny figures staggering rhythmically forward. Above all, they are a pleasure to the eye. They are now often to be found in people’s handbags or briefcases, only to make an unexpected appearance during meetings or conversations – much to the astonishment of those unfamiliar with the tiny objects. The reaction of the beholder, however, is not fear but that sense of wonder which Plato identified as the prerequisite for, and beginning of, philosophy. Due to the choice of wood, the grain, and the cutting to shape, each «Handschmeichler» is unique.
